A pen mandrel is used to mount pen blanks onto a wood lathe, after the blank has been glued onto the tube supplied in any pen kit.
Our compression type mandrels are superior to the traditional pen mandrel which relies on the standard revolving tail centre to hold it in place.
With a compression mandrel the tail centre is swapped out to a hollow one. By using compression to hold the blank in place, there is less vibration and pens will always be turned as a true round shape.
A Compression mandrel is also faster to install and remove from the lathe.
This set is everything you need to start turning pens which use a standard 7mm diameter tube.
To turn pens with different sizes of tube, you will need a set of appropriate sized bushes. All are compatible with this mandrel.
