Product Description

A heavy duty bench lathe with a big capacity and plenty of power.

  • Electronic Variable Speed Control
  • Digital Speed Read Out
  • Reverse Direction
  • Powerful & Quiet 750w (1hp) Motor
  • High Quality Drive and Tail Centres
  • Cam Action Tool Rest Banjo
  • Steel Tool Rest Bar
  • Built In 24 Position Indexing
  • Hollow head and tail stock

With full cast iron construction this bench lathe is 40% heavier and more stable than your average bench lathe.

Using a large 1hp motor allows the electronics to achieve a lowest speed of only 250rpm, with enough torque to be useful. The actual spindle speed is shown on a clear digital display.

The tool rest and tailstock both slide smoothly along the bed and are securely locked with a large cam action lever.

The tool rest itself is a round steel bar with optional lengths and shapes available, courtesy of Robert Sorby.

Supplied with drive centre, tail centre, 100mm diameter face plate, knock out bar, adjustable rubber feet, 1.9m power cable and UK 3 pin plug.

The Lathe 1420W purchased in December 2021 with only a 1 years warranty I now see that Charnwood are offering a 5 year warranty with what appears to be the same Lathe. However the Lathe meets all my needs, its smooth and sturdy even with a large bowl on. There was a problem with the Manual and spare parts but thats resolved now, the staff are very helpful, its a great lathe.

This Model is a very quiet and stable machine , even using it on a wooden floor ,
I`m so pleased with this machine as it does everything i asked of it . No loose tolerances.
I find myself using it every day its a pleasure while using it ,no problems easy to
set up a project in seconds .

The only thing that could improve it would be an expansion bed like the other models. This is a perfect lathe to start with and to continue your turning 🙂

  3. David R

A really good lathe which does everything I want. In 8 years I have only needed to turn one item that would not fit this lathe.
This was an upgrade from my previous Charnwood midi lathe.

  4. Lance Morgan

I used this lathe doing a demo at Timberman show ,what a fantastic lathe , very quiet and the quality of the casting was brilliant and well finished off , no vibration even tho it was on wheels, and turning a 14″ dia platter at 2800 no vibration what so ever ,even passed the 50p test on its edge, I would highly recommend this lathe
