The T-40 has been designed on the scale of a large lathe in regards to casting size, power and controls. The T-40 incorporates an Industrial Servo Motor, commonly used on metal working lathes for its powerful torque, which allows the T-40 huge torque at low speeds. The spindle speed is constantly monitored with instant response to increase or lower the power output.
Founded in 1999, Harvey is a market leader in innovation and perfection in woodworking machinery. The Harvey brand represents the pinnacle of excellence and is hugely admired by woodworkers in North America. We are excited to announce that we will now be able to supply these exclusive machines to the UK market.
The T-40 has been designed on the scale of a large lathe in regards to casting size, power and controls. However, it has a compact footprint and will fit well in the average UK workshop.
The T-40 incorporates an Industrial Servo Motor, commonly used on metal working lathes for its powerful torque, which allows the T-40 a greater torque and speed capacity, even when slowing down to 60rpm. The raw materials of each part of the lathe are all select, premium materials for both aesthetics and practical functions.
The fit and finish are engineered and crafted not only for a flawless operation but also for an unparalleled personal experience. The body of the T-40 has been painted with a stoving varnish providing a durable, long-lasting finish that offers more resistance against scratches, chipping, wear and fading.
The Industrial Servo Spindle Motor, which is normally used on metalworking machining centers, solves the issues of insufficient torque and drag found on most small lathes in the market.
The design of the servo motor and drive system is not only strong, but strong along the entire range from 60-4300 RPM. The servo motor can provide up to 2.2kW at its peak, an incredible 12.54 Nm (Newton Meters). This means that the T-40 is capable of handling even the most challenging of cuts.
Whether you are working near the top end or the low end of the speed range, the system will continue to supply enough power to meet your demand without the surging that you get with some lathes. The torque response is 100 times quicker than standard motors (2 micro seconds).
The servo motor is managed by an instant response system within the drive computer which reacts to changes in the torque placed on it. When turning, the changing torque level is measured constantly and the servo motor will speed up or slow down in order to provide a smooth, consistent operating speed.
A digital read out shows the current spindle speed.
The spindle can also be switched to run in reverse direction.
Stable Bed
The cast iron bed is precision ground with a polished finish. The width is 160mm to inspire confidence when making heavier cuts. There are 8 holes in the base for securing the lathe to a bench.
Rotating Headstock
The headstock rotates up to 90 degrees, to enable larger diameter bowls. There are preset locking positions at 0, 22.5, 45 and 90 degrees. When used at 90 degrees with the optional outboard turning attachment, the bowl capacity is increased to 457mm (18″) Diameter.
Ergonomic Tool Rest
The Cam lock mechanism has brass bushings to guarantee a smooth action. The tool rest height locking level has a brass tip to give an accurate placement and reduced wear without damaging the tool rest post. The shape of the tool rest has been designed for operator ease and comfort. It has a hardened round steel bar running across the top edge to ensure turning tools slide comfortably along its edge. Width is 300mm (12″).
Solid Tailstock
The cast iron tailstock has a cam lock action with a brass guide bush to produce a smooth action with minimal wear. A metal hand wheel is used to wind the quill in or out, with a travel of 100mm and automatic centre removal.
Upgraded Live Centre
The heavy duty live centre is made of carbon alloy tool steel. With its hardness, resistance to abrasion, and ability to retain shape at increased temperatures, the live centre offers stability and accuracy.
Upgraded Handwheel
The handwheel of the head stock has a large size and smooth finish, allowing the spindle to be rotated manually. Built into the headstock is a 24 position indexing system, allowing the spindle to locked in 15 degree intervals to apply finishing details.
Supplied With
Knockout bar, locating rod, drive centre, tail centre, 75mm diameter faceplate, Service tools, 2.3m cable and UK 3 pin plug.
Optional Extras For The T-40:
CI-40 Cast Iron Leg Set
A pair of heavy duty cast iron legs made perfectly for the T-40. They are designed to reduce vibration and spread the foot print to 600mm. There are 4 adjustable feet to adjust to an uneven floor. When mounted on these legs the spindle height is at 1100mm.
OT-40 Outboard Turning Attachment
Consisting of machined steel components, this attachment will allow larger diameter bowls to be turned of up to 457mm (18″) diameter. The headstock of the lathe is rotated through 90 degrees, a swing arm extends away from the bed with an extended tool rest holder. The standard tool rest then sits in the extension arm and can be positioned to the front or the side of the work piece as required. Any other tool rest with a post diameter of 1″ can be used.
EB-18 457mm Extension Bed
This solid cast iron piece is machined and ground like the T-40 bed itself. With the bed fitted, the spindle turning capacity is increased by 75% to 1067mm (42″).
