Pink Ivory Spindle Blank 12″ x 2″ x 2″

Pink ivory wood blanks (from Berchemia zeyheri) are highly prized for woodturning because of their colour, density, and fine texture.

It has a naturally bright pink to deep reddish-pink colour, which can darken slightly with age and UV exposure (can shift toward reddish-brown). The wood has a fine, even texture with a subtle grain, which Takes a very high natural polish.  You can use a UV-inhibiting finish if you want to preserve the pink tone as long as possible.

• Sands to very high grits beautifully

• Buffs to a natural shine even before finish

• Accepts CA glue finishes extremely well (great for pens)

• Also works beautifully with friction polish, oil, or wax

• Can be polished to a near mirror-like gloss

Due to timber coming from all over the world starting thicknesses vary up to 1/4“ depending on the origin. We use the umbrella guides of 1”,1.5”, 2”, 3” & 4”, but please be aware that all spindles are planed on one face to highlight the grain and to allow us to see faults which can result in under thickness.
This can result in spindles being under the thickness depending on the starting thickness. For example: Native Ash is often 2” x 2” after drying and before being planed. This can plane down to 1.75” and result in 1.75” x 2” spindles.
