SS18F 18″ Scroll Saw with Variable Speed
The Charnwood SS18F Scroll Saw is perfect for hobby, craft and model making. It’s fitted with a powerful 120w (0.16hp) smooth running motor, allowing electronic variable speed control from both machine mounted and foot pedal switches.
This enables the user precise control over the work, which is placed on the large horizontal fixed steel table. Both hands are free to guide the work piece, while simultaneously controlling the blade speed via their foot operated throttle pedal switch. This is the safest practice for accurate cutting.
A ridged steel frame provides the scroll saw stability and keeps vibration down to a minimum. It has 4 mounting points for those wishing to secure it to a workbench.
The SS18F scroll saw can cut up to a depth of 50mm in various materials and its 456mm throat allows diverse shapes to be worked. The parallel arm design gives vertical and tilting cuts up to 45 degrees either side of vertical for high quality results. There is an adjustable height foot clamp to hold the work piece down against the table and prevent chattering. An air blower keeps dust away from pencil lines to ensure they remain visible when following a template. The transparent guard keeps the operator safe from contact with the moving parts.
The addition of the foot pedal switch will transform the way you work with the saw, allowing speeds from 0 to 1550 spm to be controlled via the foot pedal. Once you have tried it you never want to be without it! The ability to stop and start without removing hands from the work piece, allows you to work quicker and more accurately, especially with complex designs.
There are 2 types of scroll saw blades available: Pin end and Plain end. The SS18F can use either type.
Pin ended blades are easier and quicker to install, they simply hook over the blade hanger.
Plain ended blades can be made thinner and are therefore more often used for very fine or intricate cutting. They are secured with the inbuilt clamps on the saw arm blade hangers.
Unlike tilting table scroll saws, the static horizontal table of the SS18F allows very easy access and sight of both top and bottom blade hangers and clamps.
On the side of the saw is a storage compartment to keep spare blades and service tools safe & ready to use.
Supplied with 1 Plain type blade, 1 Pin type blade, foot pedal switch, 2m power cable and UK 3 pin plug.
MW450 Anti-Friction & Rust Protection Machine Wax 450ml
Scroll saw blades break because they heat up, lose their temper, and become fragile. Friction created during the cutting process heats blades, so lubricate the blade by applying a little of our specialist Machine Wax.
Machine wax can also be applied to the table, to lower friction and make rotating the work piece easier.
SSBPL12 Scroll Saw Blade Skip Tooth #12 – 9.5tpi – Pack of 12
SSBPL6 Scroll Saw Blade Skip Tooth #6 16tpi – Pack of 12
Skip tooth blades are the most commonly use type. Instead of having one tooth right next to the last, they skip one tooth, leaving an open space between the teeth. The space helps clear sawdust and helps the blade cut faster. Skip-tooth blades produce a smooth finish, but slightly rougher cut surface than regular tooth blades.
