Bench top hollow chisel morticer with an accurate sliding table system.
In stock
This bench top morticer will produce crisp and clean mortices of any width and depth. The sliding bed allows timber to be securely clamped and worked on in a quick and accurate manner.
The motor has been specially produced to run at a lower rpm than standard motors, which gives a better cut, with less chance of burning. The motor drives an auger which cuts a round hole. The operator then applies pressure, using the down feed handle, which chisels out the 4 corners to create a square hole. The larger the chisel size fitted to the morticer, the more pressure needs to be applied. Using cast iron components throughout gives strength and rigidity to this mortiser, to allow a chisel of up to 15mm or 5/8″ to be used.
The front clamp arrangement securely holds timbers of up to 125mm deep and 145mm high. There are two separate controls for moving the table. Firstly the operator winds the table forwards or back until the chisel is aligned with the back edge of the mortice. Secondly the large hand wheel is turned to move the table left or right until the chisel is positioned at one end of the mortice.
Pulling the downfeed handle lowers the chisel and begins the cut. Once the first square has been cut, the chisel is withdrawn, and the table moved over to begin the next square. Once the complete length of the mortice has been cut, the table can then be wound backwards as required to create a wider mortice.
The starting position of the down feed handle can be adjusted so that it is always in a comfortable position, whatever the height of the timber.
When compared to a fixed bed machine, a morticer with a sliding bed is more accurate and faster to achieve the same results.
For anyone wanting to cut a series of identical motices there is a limit stops for the left and right side of the table movement.
Supplied with, bottom depth stop, handle return stop, chuck key, 3/4″ chisel bush, 1.75m cable and UK 3 pin plug.
Chisels are supplied separately. Any with a 3/4″ diameter shank are compatible.
