First thing is to drill the centre of the acrylic blank, using the 7mm diameter drill supplied. To drill the centre of the blank you will either need a pillar drill and a vice or to do it on the lathe, a scroll chuck to hold the blank and a drill chuck mounted into the tailstock of the lathe.

Next use the superglue supplied to fix the tube into the blank. The tube insertion tool is used to avoid getting glue on your fingers. Now cut the blank to the correct length using the barrel trimming tool.

The pen blank is now ready to go onto the mandrel, ready for turning. The collet type mandrel is quick to adjust and can be set up on any lathe with a No.2 Morse Taper fitting. The shaft slides inside the collet so that it can be lengthened or shortened to adapt to the length of the pen to be made.

A quick sand to finish it off and then the pen is ready for final assembly.
