Centres

To turn a spindle on a lathe requires a centre at each end to hold the work piece. A drive centre sits at the headstock end, a revolving centre (also known as a live centre) fits at the tailstock end.

Centres have either a Morse Taper 1 or Morse Taper 2 fitting. Some are designed to fit directly onto a scroll chuck.

For maximum grip of the work piece consider a crown drive with a ring of sharp teeth.
